日本と木版画と私 　　　　　　 Japan, woodblock prints and me

日本はとても木版画を行うのに適した国です。丈夫な和紙、綺麗な水、湿気、それらの絶妙なバランスが木版画には大変重要です。木版画はそれ自体の地道な作業が生きることそのものを表現する過程であると私は考えています。日本に木版印刷が伝来した飛鳥・奈良、平安から室町時代、そして江戸時代へと時代の中心地が場所を移すたびに形を変えながら、新たな時代の中に技術を磨いて発展を遂げ、日本中で独自の印刷文化が栄えました。そのため、私は日本の風土の力を借り、自然の息遣いを感じられる作品作りを目指しています。先人の技法、現代の新しい技術からも学びながら、生きとし生ける自分にとって身近なものの生命力を表現したいと想っています。　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　Japan is a very suitable country for making woodblock prints.Durable Japanese paper, clean water, moisture, and the perfect balance between them are very important for woodblock prints.I think that the steady work of woodblock prints is similar to the process of living.In Japan, woodblock printing was brought  from China during the Asuka and Nara periods.Even after that, woodblock printing continued to exist in the Heian, Muromachi, and Edo periods.Depending on the time era, the value of woodblock prints changed because Japan's unique printing culture prospered in line with the new epoch.Therefore, with borrow the power of the Japanese climate, I am aiming to create works that allow me to feel the breath of nature.While learning from the techniques of our predecessors and new modern techniques, I will keep expressing the vitality that is familiar to me as a living person.
